Dry Riser Testing for
Schools & Academy Trusts

Legal compliance, minimal disruption to school operations. We work with premises managers, estates directors, and business managers across the North West to keep schools compliant with BS 9990:2015.

Why Schools Need Annual Dry Riser Testing

Multi-storey school buildings are legally required to have certified, tested dry riser systems. Here's what you need to know.

Most multi-storey schools have dry risers

Any school building where the floor of the highest occupied storey is 18 metres or more above fire service access level is legally required to have a dry riser system — and to test it annually.

Governors and trust boards carry personal liability

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person — typically the headteacher, trust CEO, or premises manager — can face personal prosecution if fire-fighting systems are not properly maintained.

Ofsted and fire authority inspections

Fire authorities have the power to inspect schools at any time and require evidence of compliant fire safety maintenance. A current dry riser test certificate is expected to be held on site.

Academy trusts: one contact, many buildings

Multi-academy trusts with several secondary schools often have a single estates director managing fire safety across multiple sites. We offer coordinated testing programmes across your whole estate.

What's Included

We understand that schools run to tight timetables. We'll work with your premises team to schedule testing at a time that minimises disruption — whether that's during a school day, holiday periods, or after hours.

  • Annual pressure tests to BS 9990:2015
  • Six-monthly visual inspections
  • Same-day digital test certificates on pass
  • Clear defect reports with prioritised recommendations
  • Testing scheduled outside term time or during school hours by arrangement
  • Minimal disruption — most tests completed in 1–2 hours
  • Multi-site programmes for academy trusts
  • Fixed-price quotes per building for budget planning
  • Consolidated invoicing for trusts
  • Evidence pack suitable for governor and trust board reporting

Flexible Scheduling

We know school buildings are busy. A full pressure test typically takes 1–2 hours. We're happy to schedule:

  • During school hours with minimal corridor access
  • Before or after school
  • During half-term or holiday periods
  • Saturday (weekend rate applies)

Multi-Academy Trusts

Managing several secondary schools? We'll set up a coordinated annual testing programme across all your sites, with a single point of contact, consolidated invoicing, and a schedule that works around your academic calendar.

Documentation for governors

We can provide a summary evidence pack suitable for governor meetings and trust board reporting — showing test dates, results, and any outstanding remedial actions across your estate.

What the Test Involves

1

We attend on the agreed date

Our engineer arrives at your school with all necessary equipment. If full access details are provided in advance, no call ahead is needed — they can go straight to work.

2

System is pressure tested

We connect to the inlet breeching at street level and pressurise the system to the required pressure. All outlets on each floor are checked and signed off.

3

Certificate issued the same day

On a pass, you'll receive your BS 9990:2015 compliance certificate digitally on the day. On a fail, a full defect report is provided with clear next steps.
